Lorre’s background story:
My exciting and very creative career was as a performance artist sharing my love of spontaneous art through singing, comedy, mime, living statue, poetry and improv dance. I worked as a floral designer, owned a vintage clothing store and created FootNotes an improv movement program that I taught to kids and adults here in WNC.
This Lampshade Art journey began purely by accident in 2016 and it seemed to fit right into my life. I have always found overhead lighting too bright, too impersonal and too harsh. I noticed the lack of creativity on the shades of my table lamps and to me they were quite boring. Surely there must be a more decorative way to improve on my beautiful collection of lamps.
For many years I had been a collector of vintage lace, unique fabrics, and costume jewelry, and before long I began decorating all my lampshades with these fun tchotchkes. The shades came alive and they told their own story simply by what I glued on them. Each shade had their own personality and when their light was turned on memories of then and now warmed my home.
I am so very excited to be sharing my love of Lampshade Art at The CCC on May 6, 2023 from 1-3:30. The 2.5 hour workshop is appropriate for those over the age of 10 and for those who want to add that personal touch in their home.
