Living Art: Chakras is a seven-part online workshop series of sound-and-motion meditations for body and voice, guided by Sacred Dance Guild facilitator Claire Elizabeth Barratt and sponsored by the Sacred Dance Guild and Cilla Vee Life Arts.

Through a spirited blend of movement, breath, vocal intonement, and improvisation to music, you’ll explore the chakra system as a living map of the Self—energy centers in the core body that awaken distinctive qualities of voice, gesture, and presence. Across seven sessions—one chakra each week—you’ll journey from Root (survival) to Crown (divinity), touching Sacral (sensuality), Solar Plexus (courage), Heart (compassion), Throat (expression), and Third Eye (wisdom) along the way.

Each gathering includes an introduction to the week’s chakra, physical gestures, vocal explorations, time for questions and reflection, and a concluding discussion—offering you an embodied “toolkit” you can continue to draw from in your own practice. All are welcome, and the work is suitable for all experience levels and abilities; whether you’re new to chakra meditation or a seasoned performing artist, this series invites you to deepen the personal and spiritual dimensions of your movement and voice.

Claire Elizabeth Barratt is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist and educator whose
decades of experience span performance, choreography, and transformative pedagogy. Her unique
approach blends dance, voice, and spiritual inquiry into a deeply expressive and accessible practice.

The series runs on Tuesdays in July and August, beginning on Tuesday, 7/7, from 12:00–1:00 pm
EDT. The Zoom sessions are hosted by the Center for Connection + Collaboration: attend live or receive
a recording link afterward. Tuition is a sliding scale of $70–$140 for all seven sessions. To register or

HISTORY

Originally “Cilla Vee Movement Projects”, CVLA was established in the burgeoning arts
scene of the South Bronx, NY in 2002, where founder and director Claire Elizabeth Barratt was based at H&H Production studio - later moving to ORT in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn.
With the support of NYC organizations such as Bronx Council on the Arts, the Bronx Dance Coalition, Chashama and Arts For Art (Vision Festival), Claire began to
develop the Cilla Vee signature modes of work - such as Motion Sculpture Movement
Installations, The Sound of Movement project and Art Inspires. In the late 2000s the company name was changed to Cilla Vee Life Arts to reflect its mission, and relocated to the vibrant arts community of Asheville, NC - where it is now the resident company at The Center for Connection + Collaboration.

Cilla Vee Life Arts presents work in an extreme variety of locations and situations - from parks, gardens and wild nature environments to urban city sites, store fronts, galleries and moving vehicles - including: The New York Port Authority Bus Terminal, Art Basel Miami - Design District and the Black Mountain College Museum’s {Re}Happening on Lake Eden.

Cilla Vee Life Arts is always open to revisiting and deepening familiar works and
collaborations, while continuing to experiment and investigate new territory.

The Center for Connection and Collaboration is Asheville's arts venue and collaboration incubator. We exist to celebrate and support community art, from exhibitions to performance art to music concerts of every genre. Propose an idea and we'll see how we can make it happen.
